First Blog for Masters

  • What practices do I want to develop or improve?

Effective teaching practices for Reading  (LETRS) and Math (Multi-Sensory Math), organization and reflection in planning, implementing, and analyzing results.  And then repeating the process.

  • What do I want to know more about?

Effective strategies for teaching reading and math to students with special needs and learning disabilities.

  • Whom do I want to be in five years?

An effective and happy teacher in Resource who is able to help each student through their learning disabilities.  I want students to see progress and success in their educational journey.

Who am I?

I am Rebecca Tasker, a second year teacher and mother of 6.  I am a listener, a reflector, a person that people can come to, a contributor, an optimist, and a lover of helping others.

What is important in my life?  Why?

Individuals are important in my life, both in my family, in my friend groups, and my students. Their needs are very important to me because everyone has a history and a reason why they think or act a different way. I like to learn about different people and where they have come from, what their interests are, and why they think the way that they do.

In five years where do I want to be?  What is my living legacy?

In five years I want to be a good teacher who is able to inspire her students to work hard and use taught strategies to overcome their disabilities.

What am I doing now that will help me get to my imagined future?

I am a Resource teacher who is reflective and learning what I can from data and using it to use Best Practice strategies.

How can I improve what I am doing?

By developing my teaching skills and finding my strengths and my weaknesses, I will learn to change, improve, and reflect to become a more effective teacher. Reading more materials on teaching and really researching what I want to learn for efficiency.

Cereal

What is it with my kids and cereal? I could feed them cereal for any and every meal and they would be in high heaven. I just bought ten boxes of cereal at Smith's last week and we are now down to the last three boxes. I was thinking that it would be a good item to have in my food storage, but I guess that it was more like our week storage. You would think that it is the only thing I feed my family, but fortunately it isn't. I have limited the amount that they have eaten, but I guess having 5 kids just adds up to a high cereal consumption. I guess that I am happy that the cereal I bought is whole-grain, but I still don't think that it is healthy enough to eat that much.
Another thing that I can't figure out is when did my kids start thinking that they need a big "after-school snack". As soon as they come home, it is like a tornado has hit. I guess this is where the cereal consumption hits and ties into my thoughts right now because this is the what happened this afternoon about 3:30; cereal boxes, milk, bowls, and milk everywhere, as well as lots of craziness!!!!! Oh, the joy of kids!

My First Post

Today is the day of trying something new, adding to my blog. My sister, Liz, has been guiding me on getting this page set up so that I could actually start into the blogging world. I feel very unfamiliar with this new world of technology, but I am excited to learn!
